Energy, Utilities & Renewables

Software that pulls sensor, meter and SCADA data into one trustworthy view, so an operator sees the network, the field crew and the generation behind a single decision instead of three systems that never agree.

Custom software for electricity, gas, water and renewables operators across Australia and beyond. We connect SCADA, metering, GIS and field-works data into one trustworthy view, then build the monitoring, outage and asset systems your off-the-shelf platforms were never going to cover.

Energy and utilities software for telemetry, metering and SCADA integration

Energy and utility operators rarely lack data. They lack a single place to read it. Network telemetry sits in the SCADA system, consumption sits in the metering platform, asset records sit in GIS, and field works sit in a job system that none of the others can see. When an operator has to reconcile a fault across four screens, the decision is slower than the event. Off-the-shelf platforms each own one of those silos and have no reason to talk to the rest.

Custom integration is where that gets fixed. We connect SCADA and OT signals, smart-meter feeds, GIS asset data and field-works records into one model through proper API integration, so generation, load, outages and crew status read together. Our custom business systems and software development work fills the gaps your metering or network platform was never going to cover, and if you are weighing whether to extend, replace or connect what you have, our buy, build or integrate guide and API integration for growing businesses walk through the trade-offs.

  • Telemetry and SCADA data brought into one model instead of read across separate consoles.
  • Smart-meter and consumption feeds reconciled against network and billing records.
  • Outage, fault and field-works tracking tied to the asset, the crew and the customer.

Solar, battery and water telemetry for the renewables transition

Rooftop and large-scale solar, batteries, pumps and irrigation networks all generate sensor data that nobody reads in one place. The grid these assets connect to is changing fast: of the 5.2 GW of new renewable capacity Australia added in 2024, 3.2 GW was rooftop solar, more than 60 per cent of the new build, and rooftop systems supplied 12.4 per cent of all electricity in the National Electricity Market. That much distributed generation puts pressure on monitoring, forecasting and control that legacy systems were never sized for.

We build the telemetry and sensor and AI monitoring that brings those distributed assets into one view: solar and battery performance, pump and flow data, water and irrigation levels, with alerting when a reading drifts out of band. On top of connected data we add forecasting and applied AI where it helps a planner or a control room act earlier, with AI as one capability in the system rather than the headline. Before automating a field or back-office process, we map the manual process first so we automate the work that is actually there.

For distributed crews and assets, the people who need this data are in the field, not at a desk. We build the web and mobile applications that put live asset, outage and job status in front of field staff, and we tend to integrate before recommending a replacement, as we set out in ERP integration before replacement.

Outage management, field works and asset systems

Field works is where utilities lose the most time to bad data. A crew arrives without the asset history, the as-built differs from the record, and the job comes back to the office as a form someone re-keys. We build custom systems and automation that connect outage management, work orders, asset registers and crew scheduling, so a job carries its asset, its history and its location end to end, and the office is not rebuilding the record after the truck leaves.

We are based in Toowoomba and proud to work with Darling Downs and regional Queensland energy, water and renewables operators, but the same telemetry, metering and field-works integration runs for utilities and generators Australia-wide and overseas. The systems and the obligations are common to the trade wherever the network sits.

On the doorstep of the Queensland energy build-out

Queensland has carved out Renewable Energy Zones across the southern, central and northern parts of the state, and the Darling Downs and Western Downs are squarely inside the southern push. Large solar and wind farms are going up on the same country we already build agtech for, alongside the Surat Basin gas that has run here for years. To the north, CopperString 2032 is set to string transmission out to the North West Minerals Province, and Gladstone is positioning its processing base around hydrogen. Across the south-east and Sunshine Coast, water utilities run their own networks and metering, while the Burdekin and the Downs depend on irrigation infrastructure that needs the same monitoring discipline as any generator.

A solar developer on the Western Downs and a water authority on the Sunshine Coast face one shared problem: distributed assets throwing off telemetry that nobody reads in one place. We bring those feeds together with sensor and AI monitoring and clean integration back to the systems of record, with alerting when a reading drifts and forecasting where a control room can act earlier.

Sitting inside the southern REZ is an advantage, not a fence. We deliver for utilities, networks, solar and storage operators across Queensland, Australia and overseas, on the obligations the trade carries everywhere.

Common challenges

Of the 5.2 GW of new renewable capacity Australia added in 2024, 3.2 GW was rooftop solar, more than 60 per cent of the new build, and rooftop systems supplied 12.4 per cent of all electricity in the National Electricity Market. That much distributed generation overruns monitoring and control systems that were never sized for it, while network telemetry, metering, GIS and field jobs still sit in separate platforms that an operator has to reconcile by hand mid-fault.

How Rangefront helps

We build custom business systems and API integration that pull SCADA, metering, GIS and field-works data into one model, plus sensor and AI monitoring for solar, battery, pump and irrigation assets. We add applied AI forecasting where it helps a control room act earlier, and web and mobile apps that put live asset and outage status in front of field crews.

Common questions

Yes. Network telemetry, smart-meter data, GIS and field-works records usually sit in separate systems that were never built to talk. We integrate them through proper APIs into dashboards and workflows your operators and crews actually use, so generation, load and outages show up together instead of in three places.

Yes. We build custom telemetry and monitoring for distributed assets: rooftop and large-scale solar, battery systems, pumps, water and irrigation networks. We bring the sensor and meter feeds into one model, add alerting and forecasting, and surface the readings field and control-room staff need without re-keying.

We build to your security and operational-technology requirements rather than bolting them on later. We are a software studio, so we work within your existing SCADA, OT and compliance frameworks, including the controls energy operators manage under the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act and the AESCSF. We do not replace your security team; we build software that respects the boundaries they set.

No. We are based in Toowoomba and proud to work with Darling Downs and regional Queensland energy, water and renewables businesses, but we deliver for utilities, networks, solar and storage operators Australia-wide. Built in Toowoomba, useful anywhere.
